Experiências escolares na Amazônia Imperial: queixas de pais e moradores na imprensa paraense (1876-1888)
Abstract
Tem por objetivo analisar como pais de alunos e moradores dos povoados do interior paraense forçaram a abertura de nichos de participação no processo de constituição da profissão docente, no contexto da escola pública primária, entre as décadas de 1870 e 1880. Os pais buscavam pressionar o governo, por meio do envio de cartas e abaixo-assinados aos jornais da capital. As queixas e os comentários dos missivistas retratavam o comportamento dos professores públicos e suas repercussões no cotidiano escolar, tornando os jornais fontes importantes para o registro dos dramas escolares. A publicação de artigos e cartas sobre as escolas públicas locais possibilitou a realização de debates públicos, os quais fomentavam os embates partidários quando a divulgação das denúncias visava criar representações acerca da decadência da instrução promovida pelo governo opositor. Abstract This study aims at analyzing the way students' parents and villagers in rural Pará forced the creation of niches of participation in the process of constitution of teaching, in the elementary public school context, between the decades of 1870 and 1880. Parents tried to put pressure on the government by sending letters and collective petitions to newspapers in the state capital. The complaints and comments from the letter-writers depicted the behavior of public teachers and its repercussion in the daily school routine, turning the newspapers into important sources for records of dramatic school events. The publication of articles and letters about local public schools allowed the occurrence of public debates, promoting clashes between political parties; clashes in which the revelation of accusations was meant to create formal complaints against the decline of the education provided by the party in power.
