The contributions of Pibid to the critical and social formation of the teacher: the experience of the Universidade Regional do Cariri

Keywords: basic education, Pibid, teacher’s training.

Abstract

This article presents reflections on the contributions of the Institutional Program of Teaching Initiation Scholarships (acronymed Pibid, in Portuguese), for the critical and social formation of the teacher. The questions that guided this article relate to the role played by Pibid in undergraduate teacher-training courses at the Universidade Regional do Cariri. Data were collected through documental and bibliographic research. Results show that Pibid was a significant experience for teacher-training courses at higher education institutions; by making teachers more in tune with the problems and challenges experienced at the local elementar school, a new conception of teaching within teacher-training courses was strengthened and basic education received more visibility in the process of thinking and doing teacher education. It was found that the program permited a more qualitative and permanent link between university and school, which allowed teachers and students to think and act together in the local school education scenario, developing activities based on specific problems.
