Abstract

This text analyses the training of rural teachers in the state of Mato Grosso and in the Federal Territory of Guaporé from 1941 to 1947, based on a survey launched by the Ministry of Education and Health (MEC) and sent to Mato Grosso and the Federal Territory of Guaporé, requesting information and data on teacher education. The sources are: school documents, data obtained from the answers to the questionnaire MEC sent, proceedings of the 8th National Congress of Education, among other reports, which sources were collected at the Center for Research and Documentation of Contemporary History of Brazil (CPDOC) and the Historical Archive of the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (INEP). It was evidenced that public schools that offered regular courses practically did not exist in the regions of Mato Grosso and Vale do Guaporé. The few courses offered were short courses, meant to train teachers in the
shortest possible time, who were able to lecture only the basic knowledge one needs to teach a lesson, or to minimally train teachers who worked despite not having specific training, in rural areas or even urban schools in Mato Grosso and Vale do Guaporé.
