A Cades and sufficiency tests: a look at the North of Minas Gerais (1950-1960)
Abstract
This article presents reflections on the implementation and the operation of the Campaign for the Improvement and Dissemination of Secondary Education (Cades) in the city of Montes Claros, Minas Gerais. It aims to understand what has been proposed for the secondary education and the formative actions Cades carried out to solve educational problems in Northern Minas Gerais. This historiographic study consisted of bibliographical and documentary research. The newspaper Gazeta do Norte is the main documentary source to access the past and reconstruct memory, being complemented by the educational legislation and reports from the magazine Escola Secundária. Findings show that, in its mission to inform, the newspaper aimed at the reflexive awareness of readers and shed light into formative actions Cades developed with secondary school teachers.
