Father's Day, Mother's Day: who benefits? Discussions on school events
Abstract
A school is based on various pedagogical activities, whether they are considered scientific or grounded on common sense, such as some commemorative events, like Father's Day and Mother's Day. Thus, the general focus of this study is to problematize the presentations of school events, namely, those that celebrate Father's Day and Mother's Day, reflecting on how such activities are organized and whether they comply with scientific and pedagogical concepts, both in early childhood education and in elementary school. In this qualitative research, we employed a documentary and bibliographic analysis. Celebrations are linked to traditions and cultural rituals, making it possible to discern how educational institutions organize their celebrations and associate them to the curricular content, giving a false sense that these celebrations have a positive input in students’ intellectual development. Therefore, it is essential to question the social and scientific role of the school institution, so that it implements its pedagogical practices and consistently leans more towards scientific educational training.
